Change your personal and contact details

Keep your personal and contact details up to date in ANUHub to ensure your University records are accurate and you receive important communications and academic documents.

You can update your phone numbers, emergency contact, address, preferred name and gender yourself. Changes to your official name, title or date of birth require an application.

Important information for international students

If you are an international student studying in Australia, you must notify ANU of changes to your residential address, mobile number, email address or emergency-contact information within seven days.

Keep your Campus Address in ANUHub up to date. This records where you live in Australia, whether you reside in University accommodation or a private residence. You must also keep your other contact details and emergency-contact information current.

Check your details in ANUHub

Log in to ANUHub and open your Profile:

  • From the homepage, select Personal Data > Profile; or
  • Go to NavBar > Menu > ANUHub > Personal Data > Personal Profile.

Your Profile contains:

  • Personal Details: Your primary (official) and preferred names, date of birth, citizenship status and other personal information.
  • Contact Details: Your recorded phone numbers and email addresses.
  • Addresses: Your Home, Campus, Mailing and Offshore addresses, where applicable.

Your nominated emergency-contact person is recorded separately under NavBar > Menu > ANUHub > Personal Data > Contacts.

Check that your details are correct and follow the relevant instructions below if anything needs updating.

Change your phone number

Keep both of your mobile-number fields up to date in ANUHub. They are used for different purposes:

  • Mobile: Your general contact number, also used to send you SMS results notifications.
  • Emergency Mobile: Used to send you SMS alerts about campus emergencies and other urgent safety information.

Check that both fields contain your own current Australian mobile number. Only Australian mobile numbers can receive these SMS notifications.

Do not enter someone else's number

Both Mobile and Emergency Mobile must contain your own phone number. Do not enter a parent, family member or friend's number in either field, as they may receive your results or emergency SMS notifications.

Your nominated emergency contact is a separate person ANU may need to contact in an emergency. Their details are recorded in the Contacts section of ANUHub, not in either of your mobile-number fields.

Check, add or change your phone numbers

  1. Open your Profile in ANUHub and select Contact Details.
  2. Check the entries labelled Mobile and Emergency Mobile.
  3. Select an existing entry to edit it, or select + to add a new number.
  4. Choose the appropriate phone type, enter your number and select Save.
  5. Repeat as needed to ensure both mobile-number fields are correct.

For Australian mobile numbers, enter the number in the usual format, beginning with 04. For non-Australian numbers, enter the international country code separately.

Only Australian mobile numbers can receive ANU SMS notifications.

Add or update your emergency-contact person

You must provide details of at least one person ANU can contact in an emergency. This person is separate from the mobile numbers recorded for your own SMS notifications.

  1. Log in to ANUHub.
  2. Go to NavBar > Menu > ANUHub > Personal Data > Contacts.
  3. Check the details of your Primary Contact.
  4. Select Update to change their details, or Add a New Contact to record another person.
  5. Select Save when you have finished.

You can record additional contacts if you wish, but you must have at least one Primary Contact.

Changing your Primary Contact: A Primary Contact cannot be deleted directly. If you need to replace this person, add or update another contact and make them your Primary Contact first. You can then delete the previous contact.

Change your address

Keep your Campus Address and Mailing Address up to date. These serve different purposes, so make sure you update the appropriate address when your circumstances change.

Which address should I update?

Campus Address

Where you physically live while classes are in session. This may be ANU accommodation, a private rental or another residential address.

International students studying in Australia must keep this address current.

Mailing Address

Where you want ANU to send physical correspondence and documents, including your Testamur if it is being posted.

Your Mailing Address can be the same as your Home or Campus Address.

Home Address

Your main or permanent residence, such as your family home or primary residence before commencing at ANU. For international students, this is typically their overseas home address.

Offshore Address

Used for international students who are enrolled at ANU but completing their studies entirely outside Australia.

Add or change an address

  1. Open your Profile in ANUHub.
  2. Select Addresses.
  3. Select an existing address to edit it, or select + to add a new address.
  4. Enter the address details and appropriate effective date.
  5. Save your changes.

If you know you will be moving at a future date, you can add your new address in advance with the appropriate start date.

Check that the correct address is recorded after saving.

Change your name or other personal details

Your Primary name is your official name and is used on University documents, including your Academic Transcript, Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) and Testamur. Your preferred name can be different from your official name.

You can update your preferred name and gender directly in ANUHub. To change or correct your official name, title or date of birth, complete the Change your personal details form under Resources on this page and submit it to student@anu.edu.au with any required supporting documentation.

Change your preferred name

You can add or change your preferred name yourself in ANUHub without submitting a form or supporting documentation.

  1. Open your Profile in ANUHub.
  2. Select Personal Details > Personal.
  3. Select your existing Preferred name to edit it, or select + to add one.
  4. Select Preferred as the name type and enter your details.
  5. Save your changes.

Your preferred name may be used in University systems, but your Primary name remains the name used for official academic documents.

Change or correct your Primary (legal) name

If your legal name has changed or your Primary name is incorrect, you must request a change to your official University record.

  1. Complete the Change your personal details form.
  2. Provide supporting documentation as required by the form.
  3. Email your completed form and documents to student@anu.edu.au.

Your requested name must match your official supporting documentation. Enter it exactly as you want it recorded, including capitalisation.

Once your request has been processed, check that your Primary name is correct in ANUHub.

Preparing to confer? See the conferral section below for important name-change deadlines. Changes submitted after the relevant deadline may not be reflected on your Testamur.

Change your title

To change or correct the title recorded on your University record:

  1. Complete the Change your personal details form.
  2. Email the completed form to student@anu.edu.au, with supporting documentation if required.

Supporting documentation is not required for changes to personal titles such as Mr, Ms, Mrs, Miss or Mx. Evidence of a qualification, professional registration or appointment may be requested for academic or professional titles such as Dr or Professor.

Correct your date of birth

Is your date of birth displaying incorrectly in ANUHub?

If the day and month appear to be reversed, this may be caused by your browser's date-format settings rather than an error in your University record.

See the Quick Guide – Changing Browser Date Format before requesting a correction.

If your date of birth is incorrect on your University record:

  1. Complete the Change your personal details form.
  2. Provide official documentation showing your correct date of birth.
  3. Email your completed form and documentation to student@anu.edu.au.

Update your gender

You can update your gender directly in ANUHub at any time. You do not need to submit a form or provide supporting documentation.

  1. Open your Profile in ANUHub.
  2. Select Personal Details > Biographic.
  3. Select your existing gender entry.
  4. Choose the option that best represents your gender.
  5. Save your changes.

For more information about the available gender options, why ANU collects this information and the support available, see Updates to gender data collection for ANU students.

If you're preparing to confer

Check that your Primary name and Mailing Address are correct in ANUHub before the relevant deadlines. Your Primary name will appear on your Testamur, and your Mailing Address will be used if your physical Testamur is posted.

Check the relevant webpage for deadlines and document-delivery instructions:

  • July and December conferrals: See Preparing to confer for the name-change deadline, mailing-address requirements and delivery instructions.
  • Out of Session conferrals: See Out of Session Conferral of Award for application dates and document-delivery instructions. Ensure your name and address are correct before conferral.

If your Mailing Address changes after the advertised deadline, or your Testamur has already been dispatched to an incorrect address, contact Conferrals as soon as possible.

Testamur delivery requirements and late address changes

If your Testamur is being posted

  • Make sure your Mailing Address is complete, correct and recorded in English.
  • Do not provide a PO Box address.
  • If your mailing address is overseas, provide an international contact phone number for the courier.

Update your Mailing Address in ANUHub, not just your Home or Campus Address.

If your address changes after the deadline

Contact Conferrals as soon as possible. Include your ANU ID number, updated mailing address and contact phone number. Updating ANUHub after the deadline may not be sufficient to change your delivery arrangements.

If your Testamur has already been dispatched

Contact Conferrals with your ANU ID number and correct delivery details. Updating ANUHub will not automatically redirect a document that has already been dispatched. Conferrals can advise you about the available options.

Information for alumni

Alumni can continue to update their personal and contact details in ANUHub using the instructions above. Please also update your details with the ANU Alumni team

ANUHub and Alumni records are maintained separately:

ANUHub: Your student record, including personal information and contact details used for academic administration and academic documents.

Alumni records: Your contact details and preferences for alumni communications, events and services.

Updating one system does not automatically update the other.
