Promoting Others' Belonging Workshop

This tailored enrichment workshop for ANU student volunteers is presented by ANU First-Year Experience in partnership with Development Beyond Learning (DBL) and Amanda Aravena.

When we experience a sense of belonging and inclusion, we feel connected with other individuals and groups, and we are likely to be more motivated and engaged in various activities. Belonging enhances people's well-being and performance through positively impacting their physical and psychological states.

To intentionally promote belonging, we must create a culture where everyone feels safe to be authentic, brings 'their whole selves', and shares their diverse perspectives in any context. To create a culture of belonging we need to develop meaningful, respectful, and trustful relationships through promoting psychological safety. It also requires recognising and addressing our unconscious biases and micro-aggressions.

Learning Outcomes:

· Describe the value of belonging and its impact on well-being and performance

· Identify how to support psychological safety

· Recognise unconscious bias and identify actions to overcome bias to enhance others belonging

· Minimise micro-aggressions to promote others belonging

Attendance at the workshop is required as part of the 2023 volunteer training for FYE Student Collaborators. Any other interested ANU student leaders are welcome to attend. Register via Eventbrite.
