Tuition fees are charged based on your individual course enrolment. Each course you enrol in has an associated fee that may be different to your other courses.
From year to year tuition fee rates change. They can change for a number of reasons including those set by the University and those set by the Australian government. Specific course fee amounts are listed in the relevant course entry on the Programs & Courses website.
The cost of tuition fees differs based on many variables, however, the following principles apply to all undergraduate and postgraduate coursework fees:
Fees are not a set amount based on the degree you take.
Fees are calculated on a course (a single unit of study) basis, and every course that you take has an associated tuition fee.
Course fees will differ depending on factors such as whether you are a domestic or international student, the year you commence and the program you are studying.
Some courses cost more than others.
Each semester or session, the cost of all your enrolled courses is added together and you are invoiced for that amount.
If you change your enrolment, the amount you owe the University may change.
Different students may pay different amounts for the same course based on the above principles.
There is a Fees Rule that governs the way the University sets and increases fees. Fees are classified as Standard Tuition Fees, Other Tuition Fees and the Student Services and Amenities Fee.
All domestic undergraduate students, and some domestic postgraduate students, are Commonwealth supported, meaning they are not liable for the full tuition fee for a course. The Australian government pays a portion of the tuition fee for Commonwealth supported students. The remaining amount is called the 'student contribution'.
Most domestic graduate coursework and non-award students at ANU are required to pay domestic tuition fees (DTF).
The amount of DTF a student must pay is determined based on the courses in which that student enrols. Each course has a set tuition fee and the total tuition fees for all enrolled courses in a semester or session are totalled and invoiced.
Domestic students who are required to pay DTF, and meet the citizenship and residency requirements below may defer the payment of part or all of their tuition fees using FEE-HELP. This is where the Australian Government pays tuition fees on your behalf and you pay the amount back through the taxation system or voluntary repayments. To be eligible for FEE-HELP students must be:
an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder (resident in Australia for the duration of your enrolment); or
a permanent visa holder who is undertaking bridging study for overseas-trained professionals, and will be resident in Australia for the duration of enrolment; or
a New Zealand Special Category Visa (SVH) holder who first entered Australia as a dependent child aged under 18 years of age and has been ordinarily a resident in Australia for the previous 10 years (that is, you have been physically present in Australia for at least eight out of the past 10 years) and 18 months out of the last two years at the time of application for the loan;
Some graduate programs offer Commonwealth supported places where tuition fees are subsidised by the Australian government, but most do not. Your offer of admission will stipulate if you have a Commonwealth supported place. The majority of domestic graduate coursework students are required to pay DTF which is the unsubsidised full-fee amount.

Note that some programs have additional compulsory costs, such as field trips, books, and equipment. These are not included in the tuition fee.
Domestic students are required to pay the services and amenities fee.
Domestic students will be issued with an invoice via ISIS for each semester or session. Invoices must be paid by the relevant payment deadline. Eligable students, who have completed a Commonwealth Assistance form, with outstanding tutition fees on census date, will have the tuition fees deferred.

International students who change their residency status to one of the domestic student criteria may be entitled to pay domestic fee rates.
International students are required to pay the services and amenities fee.
International students will be issued with an invoice via ISIS for each semester or session. Invoices must be paid by the relevant payment deadline.
Domestic non-award student fees
Domestic students undertaking courses as part of a non-award program, that is a program not leading to a Degree or other award, are required to pay the full domestic tuition fees for their enrolment.
Undergraduate non-award students who are studying at ANU as part of an approved cross-institutional study (with the ANU course counting towards a degree at another Australian institution), who are enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place at their home institution will be Commonwealth supported at ANU and are eligible to defer their student contribution amount to a HECS-HELP loan.
Other non-award students are not eligible to defer their tuition fees to HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP.
All non-award students are required to pay the services and amenities fee.
Non-award students will be issued with an invoice via ISIS for each semester or session. Invoices must be paid by the relevant payment deadline.
