Grading scale

Since first semester 1994, ANU has used the following grades for all courses. This grading scale is used by all academic areas of the University.

HD 80-100 High Distinction
D 70-79 Distinction
CR 60-69 Credit
P 50-59 Pass
PS 50 Pass at a supplementary examination

Honours grading scale

H1 80-100 First Class Honours
H2A 70-79 Second Class Honours Division A
H2B 60-69 Second Class Honours Division B
H3 50-59 Third Class Honours

Interim codes

Interim codes apply where results are not yet known. Unresolved grades (such as DA or RP) for courses will be converted to a Not completed/Fail (NCN) grade at the end of the semester subsequent to the relevant course. Please refer to your ANU College student office if you have any concerns regarding an interim or unresolved grade that is recorded against your enrolment. All interim or unresolved grades must be resolved before you will be eligible for graduation from your program. Note: this conversion does not apply to all courses and/or programs.

RP Result pending
WA Withheld for administrative reasons
WF Withheld for fees reasons

Pre-1994 grades & codes

In 1994 a uniform grading system was introduced for all coursework students. Prior to 1994 the grading system varied across and within faculties. Please see the table below for a key to grades current when unified grading was introduced.
