Changing your course

Most variations to your enrolment can be made using ISIS. If you are a new student please reference the ANU student system guide provided on this page.

Add a course

To add a course select 'Main Menu' in the top left corner of your ISIS home screen, select 'ISIS' from the menu options, and then 'Enrolment'. For more information on the enrolment process visit the ANU Enrolment webpage.

If you are unable to use ISIS to add a course you will need to contact your Academic College for assistance.

Study Load

You are normally permitted to enrol in a maximum of 24 units per semester or session, 18 units in a trimester, and a standard coursework course consists of 6 units.

If you are already enrolled in 24 units, and you want to add another course, you will need to first use the drop or swap function in ISIS. If you want to take more than 24 units you will need to seek permission from the Academic College that delivers your program by completing the Application for overload of enrolment.

International students are required to complete an Application for reduced study load form before dropping below 24 units of study.

Domestic students can vary their study load at any time. If you receive Youth Allowance or Austudy you should be aware that changing your full-time or part-time status may affect your eligibility to receive such payments. Centrelink is able to advise students of their eligibility.

Courses can be added up to the end of the second week of each semester and trimester. Check the Programs and Courses webpage for non-standard session enrolment deadlines (summer, autumn, winter and spring).

Additions after the deadline may be permitted with permission from the Course Authority and Delegated Authority. Applications for late enrolment must be submitted to your Academic College using an Application for enrolment change.

No courses can be added after the relevant semester, trimester or course census date.

Swap a course

You can use the swap function on ISIS to replace one course with another.

If you are unable to use ISIS to add a course you will need to contact your Academic College for assistance.

Drop a course

You can use the drop function on ISIS to remove a course. You will remain academically and financially liable for any courses dropped after the course census date.

Courses cannot be dropped after the commencement of the relevant semester or trimester's examination period.

If you are unable to use ISIS to drop a course you will need to complete the Application for enrolment change and submit it directly to your Academic College.
