GOG Working Bee
ANU Thrive is supporting Good Omen Goodeze (GOG) in hosting their fortnightly working group on campus. The group meets on weekends for three hours, knitting and creating crochet patterns to be donated to people within Canberra's health services. The working bee meetup will be held for ANU students (who have participated with the GOG Community threads workshop in December, 2020, as well as new participants) and the broader Canberra community.
ACT Health has provided GOG with funding to supply up to 80 free "Starter Packs" for students wanting to learn knitting and crocheting during the current Covid-19 pandemic. Each Starter Pack includes knitting needles, crochet hooks, yarn, and patterns. Students will be invited to join in person Working Bees and on-line meetings. The events will have a max capacity of 50 people at each time and will be delivered with social distancing measures in place. An Eventbrite pre-registration will need to be completed for each meet-up.
The health benefits of knitting and crocheting are acknowledged in medical literature. These activities have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure and promote health and wellbeing.
