The Australian National University (ANU) has recorded its strongest teaching results in six years in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
ANU is ranked 77th and in the top 3 per cent of universities globally, with its overall score declining by 0.1 points amid increased competition among the world’s top universities.
“These results highlight the strength of teaching and research at ANU, with our Teaching performance reaching its highest level in six years and our Research Environment remaining our highest-ranked pillar,” Acting Provost Professor Joan Leach said.
"As we celebrate 80 years of ANU, we look forward to continuing to meet our high standards of teaching excellence, delivering outstanding education outcomes for generations to come."

The University’s Teaching score increased by 0.7 points to 57.4, its highest level since 2021, with ANU moving up two places to 90th globally for Teaching.
The Student Staff ratio also improved by three points, while Teaching Reputation increased by 1.7 points to 36.4, recovering from a six-year low recorded in 2025.
The University’s Research Environment was its highest-ranked pillar at 76th globally, with its score increasing by 0.9 points. Research Reputation and Research Productivity also improved.
The University recorded particularly strong scores for Research Excellence (99.3), Research Influence (98.9) and Research Productivity (99.8).
ANU also continued to perform strongly internationally, with its International Student and International Staff metrics both scoring close to 100.
The THE World University Rankings assess universities across Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook.
