Phillipa Weeks Scholarship Fund

Priority area:
The Phillipa Weeks Scholarship for Rural and Regional Students supports students from regional and remote areas to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at ANU.

The Scholarship pays tribute to Phillipa Weeks (BA (Hons) '74, LLB (Hons) '79, LLM '87) who attended school in country NSW before she was awarded a scholarship to study law at ANU, going on to become Associate Dean and Head of School before passing away in 2006.

Awarded on the basis of academic performance, leadership qualities and contribution to the community, the scholarship has supported over 10 students to move to ANU and study law from all over Australia including Dubbo, Tamworth, Bombala, Cairns and Gelorup.

2016 recipient Georgie Juszczyk, from Townsville in North Queensland, devoted her gap-year to volunteer work.

Along with enrolling in the Army Reserve and completing basic training as a soldier, she also volunteered with Indigenous boarders at Kormilda College in Darwin, and travelled to remote communities in Arnhem Land.

She has continued to adopt a ‘more is more’ approach to university, keen to pursue as many opportunities available to her as possible.

It’s an honour and encouragement to receive a scholarship in the name of such an inspirational woman, and I hope I can demonstrate the same integrity, professionalism, compassion and strength of character that she did.
