With many students away for the mid-year break, Wright Hall’s sustainability team has stepped in as winter plant-sitters, looking after the greenery from the residence this winter.  

Bathed in morning sunlight and overlooking Black Mountain, these plants are receiving plenty of love, care, water and attention until their owners return for Semester 2. 

Students are invited to get involved in the University's 80th Anniversary Community Day on Saturday 15 August, by sharing engaging, family-friendly experiences that showcase their work and help celebrate 80 years of ANU impact, curiosity and discovery. Submit an EOI by 30 June.

Lime scooters and e-bikes are a great way to get around campus, but the Campus Environment team has received complaints about vehicles being left in unsafe locations such as footpaths, pedestrian crossings and pram ramps. These create real safety risks for members of our community, particularly those with mobility needs.

Our Kitchen Garden Program was recently featured in Region, for its positive impact on student wellbeing, sustainability and community connection. The program offers free activities throughout the semester, including gardening sessions, shared meals, workshops and harvest giveaways. 

Open to the ANU community, it's a welcoming space to learn new skills, meet people from across campus and spend time outdoors. Whether you're interested in gardening, cooking, sustainability or simply taking a break from your day, there are plenty of ways to get involved.

The University’s Community Music Centre is excited to welcome two young First Nations singer-songwriters, Lillian Fromyhr and Molly Jae, to participate in the Recording First Nations program throughout June and July. 

Funded by artsACT, the program is designed to engage First Nations artists to learn recording, mixing and mastering skills that can be taken back into community.  

This year’s highlights include reaching 100 per cent renewable electricity across all campuses, reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 78 per cent since 2019, saving around 63 million litres of water through proactive leak detection and growing our campus trees count to more than ten thousand.  

The report also features community stories, including student internship projects, over six tonnes of goods donated by outgoing student residents and the ANU Kitchen Garden Program. 

These efforts contributed to ANU ranking 16th globally in the QS World University Rankings for Sustainability in 2026.

However, dating apps are a double-edged sword, with 75 per cent of Australians experiencing harassment or abuse in these contexts. New ANU research is exploring what users can do to protect themselves and who should be held accountable.
