Interim Chief Information Officer

Sajid Hassan has been appointed to the role of Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO) at The Australian National University (ANU). In this capacity, he leads the stewardship of ANU technology environment, providing oversight of enterprise IT services and supporting the continued delivery of key digital priorities, including the implementation of the ANU Digital Plan and the ongoing transformation of the University’s digital capability.

The Interim CIO is accountable for Information Technology Services, the Information Security Office, and Communications and Digital Infrastructure. This includes responsibility for ensuring these functions operate cohesively and effectively to support a seamless, secure and engaging digital ecosystem across education, research, and professional services. As a member of the University Leadership Group, the CIO works in close partnership with senior leaders to ensure technology directions are aligned with institutional priorities. A key focus of the interim period will be strengthening collaboration with Colleges and Service Divisions, while maintaining reliable, resilient and future‑focused digital services that enhance the student experience, enable research excellence and support operational effectiveness. 

Sajid brings significant experience in digital leadership and organisational change across higher education, government, and the not-for-profit sector. Sajid's background includes leading complex ICT environments, delivering strategically aligned digital initiatives, and fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and customer‑focused service delivery. During the interim appointment, he will also contribute to sector engagement and collaboration through cross‑institutional partnerships and sector forums, supporting shared learning and best practice in digital strategy, technology governance, cybersecurity, and service delivery.
