Post implementation reviews

04 Nov 2026

The ANU has commenced the Post Implementation Review (PIR) process for change implementation plans introduced during 2025.

Post Implementation Reviews are a formal requirement under the ANU Enterprise Agreement 2023-2026 (clause 70.19) and form part of the University's obligations following the implementation of major workplace change. Specifically, the review considers:

  • whether the original objectives of each change have been achieved
  • the impact on staff workloads
  • effects on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment and overall workplace diversity
  • any shifts in casualisation
  • opportunities to improve processes in the future.

Throughout the past year, the implementation of change across the University has been examined through multiple internal and external reviews, consultations and inquiries. These processes generated significant feedback and provided the University with important insights into staff experiences, the impacts of change, and areas where practices and processes need to improve. We recognise that the extensive attention these programs have already received may mean some members of our community may question the need for further feedback processes. We are grateful to the many staff who contributed their perspectives through the 2024 reviews. The feedback provided has already informed the ANU by 2030 Strategy and continues to influence decision-making across the University.

While some staff may feel they have already shared their views through earlier reviews and consultations, the PIR process provides a dedicated opportunity to assess specific implementation plans against the requirements of the Enterprise Agreement and to ensure staff who wish to contribute further feedback have the opportunity to do so.

Participation in PIR surveys is entirely voluntary. We recognise that many colleagues have already contributed significant feedback through previous review processes and thank them for their time, openness and engagement.

2024 implementation plans

PIRs for change implementation plans introduced during 2024 were completed earlier this year. These reviews included:

The findings reflected a number of themes and issues that had also emerged through other University review, consultation and inquiry processes.

Findings from the 2024 PIRs have contributed to the development of the ANU by 2030 Strategy and continue to inform the Service Delivery Implementation Program and other organisational improvement initiatives.

2025 implementation plans

The PIR process seeks feedback from staff about the impact and effectiveness of specific change implementation plans.

For some 2025 implementation plans that had local area impact only, a PIR review has been undertaken directly with staff within these areas. This includes areas such as Residential Experience, Planning, Data and Analytics, and Information Technology Services/Information Security Office.

Other 2025 implementation plans had impacts across multiple portfolios, Schools and Colleges. To ensure all affected staff have the opportunity to participate if they wish, an all-staff survey will be distributed through On Campus on 5 November 2026 and will close on 30 November 2026.

These implementation plans include:

  • Campus Environment 2025
  • ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) 2025
  • ANU College of Science and Medicine (CoSM) 2025
  • Research and Innovation Portfolio 2025
  • Education Portfolio (previously Academic Portfolio) 2025

The findings of these PIRs will be shared with the ANU community and the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU). The feedback provided will inform future implementation approaches and continuous improvement.

We recognise that reflecting on experiences of organisational change may be difficult for some members of our community. If participating in the PIR process raises concerns or causes distress, confidential support is available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
