In honour of the work of Professor Patrick Troy, this $1000 prize is awarded annually to a student working in the areas of urban systems, sustainability, and environmental change. Honours and Masters students from across the University are welcome to submit theses on these areas for consideration for this award.

Professor Troy AO (1936-2018) was a pivotal figure in urban research in Australia and renowned internationally. He was a civil engineer, town planner, public servant, academic, mentor, and generous educator, who was passionate about producing liveable cities that ensured fairness and equity as well as environmentally sustainable outcomes. His numerous books and other publications helped shape public policy and changed the role of government in urban and regional development.
