Recruiting, Retaining and Developing Research Infrastructure Talent

Seminar Abstract

The challenges facing the national research infrastructure workforce are well known. Using Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as a framework, Sach will present QUT's approach to tackling some of the challenges in recruiting, retaining and developing its research infrastructure workforce. 

Profile

Sach Jayasinghe is an independent consultant to the higher education and research sectors, with extensive experience in the delivery of strategic research infrastructure capabilities. Sach holds two adjunct academic appointments; in his capacity as Adjunct Professor (Research Infrastructure) for the University of Queensland, he works with partners to uplift the State's research infrastructure and leverage technology capabilities in establishing new industries such as synthetic biology and clean energy. As Associate (Research Infrastructure) with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), he leads the Australian Research Data Common's Platform project in delivering the Australian Digital Observatory.

Sach was the Director, Research Infrastructure at QUT until stepping down in August 2021. He provided strategic oversight of QUT's research infrastructure operations and represented the University on matters pertaining to national and state research infrastructure. Prior to QUT, Sach had several roles at the University of Melbourne overseeing strategic investment in research and research infrastructure. He developed policies for effective and efficient use of cross-organisational facilities cognisant of the technical expertise that underpins the success of such facilities.
