Congratulations on graduating from ANU! This is a wonderful achievement, and you should feel very proud that you can now count yourself a member of our alumni community. I know you've worked incredibly hard and made sacrifices - and today marks an important milestone - you are officially an ANU graduate!
2020 has been a year like no other, and I'm disappointed that we haven't been able to hold our normal Conferring of Awards ceremonies at Llewellyn Hall, but the safety of our community must come first. Your graduation ceremony is more than raising a glass of champagne or walking across the stage - it's your final moments as a student, where you can look back and reflect on all that you have achieved. And it's also your time to acknowledge and recognise your friends, family and teachers who have supported your degree.
To ensure you can celebrate with your family and peers, we're holding a Grand Graduation event on Monday 8 February 2021. You'll be able to join the celebration online, plus there'll be live events on campus, along with satellite events held in Brisbane, Beijing, Melbourne, Perth, Shanghai, Sydney and Singapore. You should have already received a 'save the date', and I encourage you to register. You'll be able to take photos with your family and hear from some incredibly inspiring speakers. And for those wishing to walk across the stage, you'll be able to register for a live ceremony once COVID restrictions have lifted and we can hold them in person again.
Also, this week, you have become part of our alumni community, which has more than 120,000 members. Your ANU education is your ticket to unlock a world of possibilities and belonging to our alumni community means you'll always have people to share this journey with. Leaving ANU as a student doesn't mean you lose your connection with us - you can still participate in networking events, meet alumni in your local region, become a mentor or mentee, volunteer for important causes or come back to campus to inspire the next generation of students. And remember, no matter where you go, ANU will always be with you so don't forget to update your contact details so we can stay in touch.
Congratulations on completing this incredible achievement, and I wish you all the best for what comes next.
