ANU at Senate Estimates last night
Dear members of the ANU community,
Last night, ANU appeared at the Senate Education & Employment References Committee Estimates hearing. This is only the third appearance in our 78-year history, and the second this year. As a Commonwealth entity, we can be called to provide an overview of our expenditure and other university matters and I am grateful for the number of staff who worked to ensure ANU was well represented.
Unlike others called, we are neither an agency nor a department of government and our community is made up of employees and students. During a line of questioning last night, the University was pushed to respond to questions around individual student discipline matters. I want to be clear: our duty of care to our students is paramount and there is no circumstance in which the University will breach the individual privacy rights of our students.
The full statement from the University is available on our website.
The University leadership team takes our responsibilities here seriously, and it is our duty and privilege to do well for our whole community in these moments.
Again, thank you to all of the staff and colleagues who supported ANU last night.
Genevieve
