Emeritus Professor Tony McMichael spent his life improving the world's health.
Visionary, inspirational and "an epidemiologist in a league of his own". These are some of the words that scientists and leaders across the globe used to describe Tony.
Tony was a pioneer. He explored the myriad pathways whereby global climate change will adversely affect our health and wellbeing - from infectious diseases to heat stroke. He also looked at the insidious effects of conflict such as food supply shortages and forced migrations. He saw how the places we live, and the social connections we have, or don't have, `get under the skin'.
Through his leadership and nurturing of younger researchers, Tony's care for our health and our planet lives on. We owe it to Tony, and ourselves, to ensure his vision continues to grow.
Tony's legacy will live on, with your help.
Your gift to the AJ (Tony) McMichael Endowment is an investment in people. It will keep an emerging and crucial research area alive and thriving. Honour Tony with a gift that will inspire others.
"The human species faces a new threat to its health - perhaps to its survival." (Planetary Overload, Tony McMichael, 1993)
Gifts from this endowment will be used to support the Tony McMichael Annual Oration at the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology, of which Tony was a former president.
The McMichael family has generously agreed to match every gift towards this endowment (up to $15,000). The more you can give, the greater the impact.
