JG Crawford Oration 2022 - presented by Mirvac

Watch the recording of 2022 JG Crawford Oration - presented by Mirvac on ANU TV YouTube channel

The Hon Dr Kevin Rudd AC will deliver this year's JG Crawford Oration.

The Hon Dr Kevin Rudd AC's address will analyse the worldview of Chinese leader Xi Jinping and how his deeply ideological worldview is shaping his country's policies at home and abroad.

The JG Crawford Oration was established to recognise Sir John Crawford's outstanding contributions to The Australian National University (ANU), both as Vice-Chancellor for five years (1968-1973) and as Director of the Research School of Pacific Studies for the preceding seven years (1960-1967). Sir John was also the Chancellor of ANU from 1976 to 1984.

As an official and as a scholar, Sir Crawford exercised remarkable influence nationally and internationally. He was a key player in reorienting Australian economic policy in the mid-twentieth century and, along with counterparts in Japan and the United States, a pioneer in the building of a regional economic and policy community.

The Hon Dr Kevin Rudd AC served as Australia's 26th Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010, then as Foreign Minister from 2010 to 2012, before returning as Prime Minister in 2013.

He became President and CEO of Asia Society in January 2021 and has been president of the Asia Society Policy Institute since January 2015. He is also a leading international authority on China.

He began his career as a China scholar, serving as an Australian diplomat in Beijing before entering Australian politics.

Dr Kevin Rudd AC completed his undergraduate studies at ANU, a Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) with First-Class Honours.
