Handel's Messiah

Presented by ANU College of Arts & Social Sciences

In the lead up to the Christmas season, the Canberra Choral Society (CCS) invites the Canberra community to come and enjoy the most performed and loved work in the choral repertoire - Handel's Messiah.

After a hiatus of two years because of the COVID pandemic, this must see 'Come and Sing' event brings together the CCS Massed Choir, CCS orchestra and accomplished soloists, under the baton of Dr Graeme Morton AM, for a performance that will shake the rafters of the magnificent Llewellyn Hall.

The soloists for this concert are Susannah Lawergren (Soprano), Stephanie Dillon (Mezzo Soprano), Andrew Goodwin (Tenor) and Andrew Fysh (Bass), and the orchestra is sourced from Canberra's finest players.

Beloved by audiences and performers alike, this extraordinary work balances sublime solos with some of the most beautiful choruses ever written and brings the chorus to the centre of the drama of the story of Christ's birth, death and resurrection.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart acknowledged the power of Handel's writing, saying, "When he chooses, he strikes like a thunderbolt". And nowhere is this truer than Handel's masterwork Messiah, the 53 movements of which were written in an astonishing 24 days.

Don't miss this glorious must-see event.
