Higher Degree Research Committee

The Higher Degree Research Committee is a sub-committee of the University Research Committee. It is responsible for the provision of information and advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) and the Dean, Higher Degree Research on matters relating to research training.

Terms of reference

Specifically the role of the committee is to:

  • advise the Chair, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) and the University Research Committee on all matters relating to the University's Higher Degree Research programs
  • foster excellence in research training programs by monitoring the quality and academic standards of research training
    • monitoring the quality and academic standards of research training
    • evaluating and reporting on matters including supervision, administration, physical infrastructure and facilities, information infrastructure and financing of scholarships and training.
  • evaluate recommendations on policy for the strategic development of research training in the context of the University and College strategic plans
  • monitor external developments relating to research training and provide advice to the University Research Committee on appropriate strategic responses
  • regularly review all rules, policies and procedures related to higher degree research; recommend revision to the University Research Committee and oversee implementation.

Administrative arrangements

The Chair will convene and preside at a minimum of four meetings per year. Secretariat and other support for the committee to be provided by the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

Whenever a member is unable to attend, they may nominate a deputy to attend the alternate will exercise all rights and privileges of the member.
