Dr Ian Walker
I have had the pleasure of being Head of Toad Hall since 2010, including 4 years also as Head of Ursula Hall. In these roles I have led engagement with the academic community to achieve excellent student experience for residents and create a living community that models our university's values.
As a professional staff member I have played a key role in the transition of many from school to University or from a range of professional positions across the globe to enter graduate programs at ANU. I have given support across disciplines, as well as across cultures and varied backgrounds, to students in their approaches to learning, their course commitments, and their academic results.
My passion for the university and academic quality can be seen in my leadership across the halls of residence and the engagement with all colleges and schools, such as in the conduct of a 'Deans@Toad' series, research presentation evenings, academic mentoring programs, and a Graduate Leadership Forum.
I seek to represent all professional staff by bringing a passion for education and an understanding of the challenge of creating a collegiate approach between academic and professional staff to engage with and progress education to be of the highest quality in Australia's only national university. I am very proud of the work of my professional colleagues and believe I, as others have done previously, can take our voices into Academic Board to ensure that we are strong participants in the furthering of academic quality at the University.
