Professor Tim Senden

Director, Research School of Physics and Engineering
BSc (Hons) PhD (ANU)

I am a dedicated member of the ANU community, and passionate about the key elements that differentiate our University.  I truly believe the ANU is a university without walls, and many of my cross-campus collaborations over the past 25 years are illustrative of that opportunity we can all realise.

I seek to maintain my role on Council, at a time when experience and corporate knowledge may assist our new Vice Chancellor in realising his vision. This is a vision I strongly support and will strive to help implement.

Beyond our open and inclusive nature, I strongly feel the ANU's key differentiators include the capacity to enrich the undergraduate experience through integration of fieldwork, practise-led or lab-based curricula with course work, with academic mentoring and offering bespoke research opportunities. I also celebrate our remarkable technical capability we possess to design and develop new materials, advanced instruments and novel applications.

Tim is a graduate of the ANU, completing his BSc(Hons) in Physical Chemistry in 1989 at RSC, and subsequently his PhD in 1993 at RSPE.  He held positions at the College de France (Paris), Institute Charles Sadron (Strasbourg), and UNSW (ADFA) before returning the Dept Applied Mathematics, RSPE in 1997.
