About this scholarship

Each year the ANU College of Law may offer an award known as the Tina and Tano Salpietro Travel Grant ('the Award').

The objective of the Award is to provide financial assistance to enable a student to complete a legal internship in the Northern Territory with an Indigenous focus.

Funding for this Award has been provided by Antonella Salpietro, who established this award in recognition of her parents, Tina and Tano Salpietro. Antonella wishes to acknowledge her parents' empathy and solidarity towards groups who experience disadvantage.

There are overwhelming levels of unmet legal need in Aboriginal communities and Antonella is committed to help addressing these needs. She hopes her donation will work towards lessening the disadvantages experienced by First Nations people, as a result of imbalances in the legal system. Antonella anticipates that this scholarship will enable Indigenous students to work with and for the Aboriginal peoples of the Kimberley, strengthening their capacity as future Indigenous justice leaders. In addition, Antonella anticipates that all students who gain first-hand awareness of the challenges faced in Aboriginal communities, will go on to become allies and advocates for indigenous social justice and legal reform as their careers progress.
