Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships Program

Overview

The Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships Program improves access to and completion of tertiary education courses.   The scholarships are open to students from regional and remote areas in Australia.

The program aims to:

  • increase the number of students entering tertiary education
  • increase the number of students able to undertake their preferred course of study, irrespective of their location
  • increase program participants' rate of course completion relative to their peers.

The Program will support up to 1100 undergraduate, postgraduate and Vocational Education and Training (VET) students to undertake a tertiary course, open to all fields of study the scholarships are for Certificate IV to PhD courses.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
  • Have commenced the first year of their Eligible Course of Study in Semester 1 of 2020 and be continuing in Semester 2 of 2020 or;
  • Be about to commence the first year of their Eligible Course of Study in Semester 2 of 2020
  • Have your permanent home address in a regional or remote area as defined by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS).

Benefits

The Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships Program can provide:

  • funding up to $18,000, based on course length and type of study or training
  • a further $500 to support an Internship

The minimum duration a scholarship can support is six months full-time and the maximum is four years full-time (or part-time equivalent).

  • Australian citizenship, permanent humanitarian visa, or New Zealand citizenship
  • residence in regional or remote Australia
  • financial need
  • eligibility for other considerations.

Further information

The Australian Government's Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships (RRES) program, which opened on Monday, 20 January 2020. The fourth round will provide 1100 scholarships, and applications will remain open throughout 2020 or until the scholarships are fully exhausted.
