In 2021, the Australian National University is offering the Josh Cole Scholarship with the aim of supporting a student from an educationally disadvantaged background or from a rural/remote area complete an undergraduate degree at the University. It is offered to assist in overcoming barriers to a university education that experiencing financial hardship, attending a low ICSEA school or living in a regional, rural or remote area might impose.
Funding for this award has been provided by ANU alumnus Josh Cole to support greater diversity and more opportunities for disadvantaged students at ANU.
Field of study
The award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who:
(a) is a domestic student;
(b) receives an offer of admission to an undergraduate degree program at the University;
(c) is eligible for and receives adjustment factors for financial hardship under the National Access Scheme.
Selection is made on the basis of applicants meeting the eligibility criteria. Other factors may be taken into account where they align with the University's strategic objectives to ensure a diverse student cohort.
Where there are multiple applicants who meet the eligibility criteria, preference will be given (in order of priority) to applicants who:
i. are from a rural/remote area;
ii. attended the final years of schooling at a low ICSEA school (below 1000) and if required, ranked according to lowest ICSEA;
iii. are not receiving another award from the University;
iv. (if necessary) have received adjustment factors for a combination of disadvantages.
The scholarship provides $8,000 per annum for up to 5 years to assist with educational and living expenses. The scholarship is paid at the beginning of each semester subject to the recipients meeting ongoing eligibility requirements as outlined in the conditions of award.
How to apply
All applicants applying for admission to ANU through the direct Admission Scholarship and Accommodation Application will be automatically considered for the award based on them meeting the eligibility criteria and electing to be considered for scholarships.
