Grace Groom Memorial Scholarship

Overview

The Grace Groom Memorial Scholarship has been established from a donation by the Mental Health Australia Ltd in memory of Grace Groom.

The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide financial support to international or domestic postgraduate students enrolled in study and research relating to mental health issues. Applicants may be enrolled in any research program within the ANU College of Health and Medicine (CHM). Their research program should have meaningful and real application to the daily lives of people with a mental illness and/or the people who care for them.

Eligibility

In order to be considered for the Scholarship, an applicant must:

be enrolled in a graduate research program offered within the ANU College of Health and Medicine; and
be already undertaking study in a mental health related field.

Applicants with a lived experience of mental illness (including as a carer) are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

The scholarship is valued at $5,000. The funds may be used for, but are not limited to, equipment purchase, research study fees, research study related travel expenses, fieldwork expenses such as for survey recruitment, textbooks, conference travel and associated accommodation and registration costs, or journal publication costs. The Scholarship is not to be expended on stipend or salary and the expenditure must be related to applicant's program of research.

How to apply

The Scholarship application must include:

A statement briefly describing the applicant's research, how it will improve the lives of consumers and/or carers, how the scholarship would be used and how this relates to the applicant's project.
A budget and budget justification endorsed by the applicant's supervisor.
The applicant's curriculum vitae.
A brief statement of support from the applicant's supervisor.

Further information

The scholarship funds must be expended within 1 year of award, and within the program enrolment of the recipient.

Scholars will be required to provide a report, to be incorporated in the Alumni Relations and Philanthropy office report to the Donor, no later than the 30th October, following the Scholarship period. The report will outline the progress of their project and the impact of the Scholarship on achieving the progress.
