The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific is delighted to invite Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to apply for the Garrurru Indigenous Undergraduate Scholarship.
The objective of the Award is to address the underrepresentation of Indigenous Australians enrolled in undergraduate degree programs offered by the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. The College aims to achieve this through the provision of support that removes some of the pressures that may be faced by students, particularly those transitioning to University life. The scholarship money will be paid to students upon enrolment who may then choose to use the funds in whichever way will support their individual study purposes most appropriately.
Field of study
Asian Studies, International Security Studies, Asian and Pacific Languages and Pacific Studies.
The Award is available each year to a prospective ANU student who:
(a) is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
(b) identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person;
(c) is recognised as such by their community; and
(d) receives an offer of admission to an undergraduate degree program offered by the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific.
The scholarship provides students with support to the value of $15000 per annum for the duration of a standard undergraduate program (i.e 3 years full time for a single undergraduate degree or 4 years full time for flexible or vertical double degree).
The recipient will also be provided with pastoral support from the Tjabal Centre, and/or the Manager, Education Services within the College. The award is paid in consultation with the recipient, which may include a bi-annual payment (after census date), direct tuition fee payment, or accommodation payment, unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer.
How to apply
All students applying directly to ANU for admission and who elect to be considered for scholarships will be assessed for this Award if they meet the eligibility criteria.
