The Elspeth Young Memorial Grants have been made possible by the generous bequest from Dr Elspeth Young to provide financial support to Indigenous Australian undergraduate and graduate students at the Australian National University. This support will be directed to costs necessary and incidental to studies, but not including any fees.
There is limited funding available so unfortunately it is not always possible for the committee to approve, or approve in full, all applications.
The award is available each year to an Indigenous Australian student who is:
(a) enrolled in a program of study leading to the award of a degree at the Australian National University;
(b) able to demonstrate financial need.
Selection is made on the basis of application and financial need. Preference may be given to students who have not previously applied or been awarded the grant.
Eligible students may apply and be approved to receive funding for education related expenses such as laptops, headphones, textbooks, field trips etc..
If successful, payments will be made directly to a student's bank account.
How to apply
Application is via the "Apply Now" link at the top of this page. Be sure to include as much detail as possible and quotes as required to allow the selection committee to make an informed decision. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
We recommend you read the Guidelines included in the "Reference Document" section on this page for information about monetary limits on some frequently requested items. This may help manage your expectations.
