Overview

In 2021 the Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre ("the Centre) is offering the Benson Family Scholarship with the aim of supporting a female Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who is studying Law, Science, or Health and Medicine at the undergraduate level.  It is offered to assist in overcoming barriers to a university education that living in a regional, rural or remote area might impose

Science, Health & Medicine and/or Law

Eligibility

The award is available to a prospective ANU student who:

  • is a domestic student
  • Is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent;
  • Identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person;
  • Is accepted as such by the community in which they live, or formerly lived;
  • Identifies as female
  • receives an offer of admission to an undergraduate degree in either the College of Law, College of Science or College of Health and Medicine; and
  • attended a regional, rural or remote school during year 11 or 12 that is listed on the UAC EAS Schools lists and is eligible for EAS Adjustment factors under disadvantage codes S01C or S01R. 

Selection

Selection is made on the basis of an applicant meeting the eligibility criteria.  Additional factors to foster diversity and inclusion may be taken into account and may include, but are not limited to:

  • Educational access or disadvantage
  • Financial need
  • Academic merit

Benefits

The scholarship provides $8,000 per annum for up to 5 years to assist with educational and living expenses.  The scholarship is paid at the beginning of each semester subject to the recipients meeting ongoing eligibility requirements as outlined in the conditions of award.

How to apply

All applicants applying for admission to ANU through the direct Admission Scholarship and Accommodation Application will be automatically considered for the award based on them meeting the eligibility criteria and electing to be considered for scholarships.
