About this scholarship

 

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Translational Photosynthesis is currently looking for Honours students interested in photosynthesis research projects.

Our Honours projects provide training in a cutting-edge techniques; spanning laboratory and field science, genetics, biochemistry, physiology and modelling. You will work with internationally recognised scientists on exciting projects that are tackling real-world problems, such as climate change and food security.

The Centre has state-of-the-art plant science research facilities at its six nodes, including ANU, the University of Queensland, the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University, CSIRO and the International Institute for Rice Research (IRRI) located in the Philippines.

We provide students with an unique opportunity to work with internationally recognised leaders in exciting photosynthesis research projects from one of the following programs:

  • Improving leaf carbon dioxide capture efficiency
  • Improving light energy capture efficiency
  • Exploiting photosynthetic variation
  • Linking leaf function and the field performance of crops

The Scholarships shall be available for award to students who:

  • have been successful in gaining entry into the Honours year of an undergraduate program offered by the Research School of Biology;
  • have a strong academic record;
  • have a willing and suitable supervisor who is associated with the Centre of Excellence for Translational Photosynthesis.

Additional information

 

Up to four successful applicant will be offered a Charles Barry Osmond Scholarship which provides a stipend of up to $7,000 or as stated in the letter of offer. All other applicants will be considered for ARC Centre of Excellence in Translational Photosynthesis Honours Scholarships at equal value.

Applications for students commencing in semester 1 2021 open on 1st October 2020 and close 4th December 2020.

  • completed application form (available from the top of this page), that includes;
    • a proposal of no more than one page in length describing the intended research within the theme related to photosynthesis, and the motivation for undertaking research on this topic,
    • the applicant's academic record;
    • name and contact details of the applicant's identified supervisor/s; and
    • contact details for two academic referees familiar with the applicant.
