Domestic undergraduate admission

ANU is committed to providing transparent admissions advice.

Before applying to ANU, it is important that you review the admissions process and requirements related to your application.

Please be aware that ANU admission requirements can change.

ANU admission requirements

Applicants for ANU programs must meet the following minimum admission requirements to be considered for entry into any program:

  • Academic qualifications - this is most often a completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent, or 1 year or more of full time tertiary study. See applicant backgrounds below for more information.
  • English language requirement - most domestic undergraduate applicants meet this requirement through their previously completed study. For more information, see the English language requirements for admission policy.
  • Program-specific requirements, such as pre-requisite subjects or additional selection criteria (e.g. a portfolio for Visual Arts) - please refer to the information on Programs and Courses for requirements specific to your chosen program.

How admission is offered

Admission to ANU is on a competitive basis as the number of places available in a program is limited. A selection rank is calculated for every applicant based on accepted academic qualifications and adjustment factors where applicable. The available places in a program are filled based on applicant background and selection rank. Meeting all admission requirements does not guarantee entry into a program.

View the number and background of students who received offers and their selection ranks for each program.
