For students looking to stay in Canberra over the December - January summer break finding a place to stay that offers short-term accommodation options can be a little tricky. The University is committed to making sure that our students can easily remain on campus during the holidays, so that they can participate and enjoy the campus activities on offer.
We will also, subject to availability, accept some group bookings over the summer accommodation period.

Frequently asked questions
When do summer accommodation contracts start and finish?
Summer accommodation will be available from Sunday 18 December 2022 to Sunday 5 February 2023.
Current residents can request to stay up to 17 December in their current residence. Please contact your reception for more information.
Residents who are staying with us in 2023 will move from their summer residence back to their 2023 residence on 6 February 2023.
What is the minimum period I can stay over the summer?
5 days.
What if I start studying in 2023 and will arrive early?
Please contact Accommodation Services team at uni.accom@anu.edu.au who will provide advice.
What residences are open for the summer?
The following residences will be open for the summer period:
- Bruce Hall Main Wing(Catered)
- Bruce Hall Packard Wing (Self-catered)
- Fenner Hall (Self-catered)
- Toad Hall (Self-catered)
The following residences will be remain open but students remain under contract and have a shorter summer period if required:
- Graduate House
- All Lodges
- Ursula Hall Laurus Wing
Wright Hall will be open for group bookings. Please contact Accommodation Services team at uni.accom@anu.edu.au about group bookings.
What are the tariffs that I need to pay for summer accommodation?
The tariff will depend on the residence that you are staying at. Look at the Schedule of Fees for more information.
The 2022 Schedule of Fees ANU Halls & Lodges is applied to existing residents. Existing 2022 residents would transition to the 2023 tariff on Saturday 11 February 2023.

Please note that a room cleaning fee applies and will be added to your final payment.
Am I eligible for the summer accommodation?
You may be eligible if you are:
- 2022 Resident who wishes to extend your stay through the summer
- Existing ANU student currently living off campus
- 2023 commencing student who wishes to arrive earlier for semester 1
- Individual ANU staff
- Visiting fellow (with proof of approved visitor status)
- Visiting scholar (with proof of approved visitor status)
All other requests will be treated as non-residents and handled as group bookings. Please contact Accommodation Services team at uni.accom@anu.edu.au with the details of your requirements to receive more detailed information.
How can I stay connected over the summer?
The University typically hosts the Summer Connection program which is aimed at providing you with various opportunities to connect with other students both socially and academically through a suite of events and activities. More information will be provided later on this page.
How to apply for summer accommodation?
Existing 2022 residents will receive an expression of interest request in November.
