ANU-managed return flights

Please remember that you do not need to participate in this program to return to Australia. Students that are fully vaccinated with an approved or recognised TGA vaccine and hold a valid student (subclass 500) visa are able to return to Australia on commercial airlines at a time of their choosing.

ANU is delighted to advise that we will facilitate the return of a limited number of international students to Canberra as part of the ANU International Returns Program. We are excited to take this step returning our international students to Canberra.

ANU will arrange seats on commercial flights from around the world to support students to return to their studies on the ANU campus. Places on the Program will be offered on a first come basis to applicants with a valid student visa and submit a copy of their vaccine certificate showing they are fully vaccinated with a TGA recognised or approved vaccine.

How much will it cost me to participate in the NSW Program?

Students will need to pay their own travel costs. Travel costs for the student will include:

  • a one-way flight to Australia from a central flight hub arranged by the FCM travel - estimated flight costs and cancellation terms and conditions are listed on the FCM travel FAQ page.
  • any associated costs for the student to get to that flight hub including transportation and accommodation if necessary (to be costed and arranged by the student).
  • a pre-flight COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test taken no more than 72 hours before boarding (to be arranged by the student at their current location).

Will I need to quarantine when I arrive in Australia?

You are required to follow any NSW Government quarantine or self-isolation requirements at the time of your arrival. If you are participating in this Program, ANU will arrange self-isolation accommodation on your behalf. ANU will be in contact with students participating in this program to advise them of these requirements and facilitate their transfer to the ACT.

After I arrive in NSW, how will I get to ANU in Canberra?

ANU will arrange a private bus to pick you up from your point of arrival and/or quarantine facility and transport you to Canberra. ANU will cover the cost of the private bus.

Do I need a visa to participate in the NSW Program?

Yes. All students participating in the NSW Program must hold a valid Student Visa (subclass 500 or 570-575). This a requirement of the Australian Government. More information on international student visas can be found on the ANU website.

Am I required to be vaccinated to participate in the NSW Program?

Based on current health authorities' advice, only students who are fully vaccinated with a vaccine recognised by the TGA approved or recognised vaccine will be eligible to participate in the NSW Program. Students who have received two different TGA approved vaccines will be considered as fully vaccinated.

What if I am not a current student, but will commence study in 2022?

Students with current offers or considering study in 2022 are not eligible to participate in the NSW Program. However, please remember that you do not need to participate in these programs to return to Australia. From 15 December 2021, students that are fully vaccinated with an approved or recognised TGA vaccine and hold a valid student (subclass 500) visa are able to return to Australia on commercial airlines at a time of their choosing.

What happens if I am not able to participate? Do I keep studying online?

Students that are fully vaccinated with an approved or recognised TGA vaccine and hold a valid student (subclass 500) visa are able to return to Australia on commercial airlines at a time of their choosing.

This means that you do not need to participate in this program to return to Australia to study, as long as you meet the above requirements.

The University is committed to doing everything we can to support you and we will continue to provide remote and online learning options for our students overseas for as long as that is required. However, ANU is working on other pathways to bring all our offshore international students to Canberra in 2022.
