ANU students and staff can access a range of free support services. Contacting a support service: 

  • will NOT be shown on your academic record
  • will NOT affect your visa status and will not
  • will NOT impact your employment with ANU.

On campus safety

ANU Security

Availability: Round the clock - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

ANU Security maintains a 24 hour patrol on campus, responding to emergency situations and providing First Aid. ANU Security is also available to accompany you across campus, to your vehicle, to student residences or to your teaching or learning space if you feel unsafe or would like some support.

Medical services

ANU National Health Co-op

Availability: 8.30am-5.30pm, Monday-Friday. 9am-2pm on Saturdays.

ANU National Health Co-op is a confidential medical service which can provide support, information and referral. Membership to the National Health Co-op is free for ANU students and a small monthly fee for ANU staff. There is a network of 10 National Health Co-op clinics in Canberra.

Counselling support services

ANU Counselling

Availability: Monday to Friday from 9am-4.45pm. Closed 1-2pm each day.

ANU Counselling Centre is a confidential counselling, support, information and referral service. The ANU Counselling Centre offers on the day appointments and standard appointments. You can book a standard appointment by calling the service. On the day appointments need to be booked in person by arriving at the Counselling Centre before 9am (usually around 8.30am) on the day you wish to receive your appointment. The ANU Counselling Centre is located on Level 3 of the Health and Wellbeing Centre in Kambri.

Availability: Monday to Friday from 5pm-9am. 24 hours on weekends and public holidays.

ANU Crisis Line is a confidential and free personal crisis counselling available after hours and on weekends to ANU students experiencing situational stress, emotional difficulties and mental health concerns.

Case coordination, response and referral

ANU Respectful Relationships Unit

Availability: Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm.

The Respectful Relationship Unit's Case Coordination, Response and Referral team can provide advice to students and staff who have experienced, witnessed or supported someone who has experienced sexual misconduct. This advice includes what information someone could access, what other services someone could be referred to, and what support is available. This process is confidential. If someone discloses a sexual assault or an instance of sexual harassment to you, it means they have identified you as someone they feel safe with. Here are some useful tips on supporting the person disclosing as well as the person responding.
