Miriam is a criminal law scholar who has been a member of the ANU College of Law since 2000. Miriam teaches criminal law and procedure and her major research interest is in the field of federal criminal law.

A significant part of Miriam's service in the ANU College of Law has centred on the student experience.  This includes a period as International Student Advisor as well as involvement in a University-wide learning community towards the beginning of her academic career.  She later served as Sub-Dean (a role which involved advising LLB and JD students in the College); and, more recently, took on the position of Head of School of the ANU Law School for nearly three years.  In this last role, Miriam served on a number of University Committees related to education and student matters and was also a member of Academic Board.
