FAQs: COVID-19 Incoming Exchange and Study Abroad Suspensions

At the Australian National University, we are conscious that this has been a difficult time for many of our community, including for those with plans to come and study at ANU. The University is closely monitoring situation in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic and the safety of our community remain our highest priority.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University has made the decision to suspend incoming exchange and study abroad studies for the upcoming semesters, Semester 2 2020 (Jul-Dec 2020), and Semester 1 2021 (Feb-Jun 2021). This decision was not made lightly and we understand you will be disappointed.

We have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions to answer some of your queries surrounding this matter. Should you  have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at global.programs@anu.edu.au

I've already applied to ANU for the upcoming semester, what do I do?

You can choose to either defer your offer to Semester 2, 2021 (Jul - Dec 2021) or cancel your application to ANU. Your current offer will be cancelled in the system and will no longer be valid.

You need to ensure that you liaise with your home institution to determine the best course of action for you.

I want to cancel my application to ANU, what do I do?

If you wish to cancel your application to ANU please email global.programs@anu.edu.au to advise that you wish to withdraw your application.

If you can include either your ANU ID number (eg U1234567) or your application number (eg W1234567) this will enable us to process your request faster.

I want to defer my application to ANU, what do I do?

If you wish to defer your application to ANU Semester 2, 2021 you will need to get in touch with your home institution in the first instance.

If they wish to support your deferral, they will get in touch with our team to discuss whether this can be accommodated.

I've already accepted my offer to ANU, what do I do?

Your acceptance will now automatically be cancelled. This means that your offer to ANU for Semester 2, 2020/Semester 1, 2021 will no longer be valid and your CoE has been cancelled. You should have received a copy of your cancelled CoE but you can also request one from our team; global.programs@anu.edu.au.

If you have applied for a student visa already, this will no longer be valid. You will need to withdraw/cancel this application through your online Australian immigration account.

You will also need to cancel your OSHC policy with the insurance provider; Allianz Insurance. Please contact Allianz at oshcact@allianz-assistance.com.au with a copy of your cancelled CoE to request a refund. If you have paid tuition fees to ANU, please email us for a copy of the refund application form. Alternatively, upon issuance of your CoE you would have received instructions on how to log into the Allianz portal to receive confirmation of your policy; you can use this same log in information to cancel your policy and contact Allianz.

Can I get a refund for my OSHC or tuition fees?

Once your CoE has been issued your OSHC payment is passed on to our insurer, Allianz. Please contact Allianz at oshcact@allianz-assistance.com.au with a copy of your cancelled CoE to request a refund. If you have paid tuition fees to ANU, please email us for a copy of the refund application form.

If you have paid tuition fees to ANU, as a study abroad student, you will need to apply for a refund using the form available here; https://www.anu.edu.au/students/program-administration/fees-payments/fee-refunds.

I have already submitted an accommodation application; how do I withdraw this?

I'm already studying with ANU this semester and have been nominated to complete an additional semester; does this apply to me?
