A window to our past
|
On 18 January 2003, bushfires ravaged the southwestern suburbs of Canberra, decimating the Mount Stromlo Observatory (pictured), home of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Quick thinking staff saved vital research, but over $70 million in buildings, equipment and other infrastructure was lost. In 2015, the director’s residence, rebuilt and restored to its original appearance, was opened to the public as a memorial.
