Message from the Vice-Chancellor

Hello everyone

I hope you have been settling into the first few days of lockdown. Most of us would have seen the news that the ACT will be in lockdown until at least Thursday 2 September.

Our ACT campuses are included in this mandate and we will continue to operate and teach remotely until the restrictions are lifted.

I know many members of our community have already been impacted, particularly our residential students who were under additional restrictions while close contacts awaited test results. Thank you all for your cooperation, I know it has not been easy. I also want to acknowledge the incredible hard work of our staff in the halls and volunteers who made sure our students were safe and had access to food. We have developed a new model with ACT Health, which we hope will make life for our residential students easier and won’t mean the entire hall is impacted each time a close contact is identified.

I am very proud that everyone has taken this so seriously and although we aren’t coming out of lockdown as quickly as we all hoped, we need to do what we can to keep our community safe. Please make sure you are reaching out for the support you need.

Please take the time to read our important updates below and continue to watch the website for updates. Stay safe everybody - we are all in this together.

Update for our students affected by a lockdown outside of the ACT
The ACT lockdown means we have had to pause plans to bring our interstate students back to campus. We have updated our Q&A for students in COVID-affected areas in Australia to reflect the latest information given the impact of COVID-19 across the country.

Emergency relief
Both ANUSA and PARSA have financial support grants available for students experiencing unexpected hardship. These can provide immediate help to assist with covering grocery and medical expenses so that you can get back on your feet.
The ACT Government has also made emergency food relief available and can deliver groceries and other essentials to your door.
Increased COVID phishing attempts
Cyber attackers exploit disruption caused by lockdowns to target people when they are most vulnerable.

It's important to closely inspect links in emails before clicking on them by hovering over it to check the destination matches the text and that the destination domain is a known ANU source.
