Collaborate with us - External partnerships

The ANU Below Zero Initiative is establishing projects that blend climate and energy innovation, education, research, and community engagement to create a new way of working to tackle complex challenges.

As Australia's national university, our world-leading research and teaching is underpinning our action towards reaching our goals, and we welcome like-minded collaborators to help us realise our vision.

Our first priority is reducing emissions. From 2025, in order to reach our net zero goal, we will develop emissions removal projects to draw down emissions either on ANU land or in partnership with other organisations and use high quality Australian carbon offsets.  By 2030 any emissions removal activity must have a link with ANU research or teaching or take place on ANU land.

Our priorities for 2022 are to quickly transition away from using natural gas via electrification and to look at options for electricity self-generation, including the installation of renewable energy generation and energy storage on campus. We are considering innovative technology and business models to underpin this transition, which will connect research and teaching with implementation at a practical level.  This approach aims to magnify the impact of the Initiative, by not only reducing ANU emissions but also developing leading research, development, and demonstration activities to help other organisations reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

If you would like to help ANU navigate our energy transition and create innovative sustainable buildings, precincts, campuses and regions, using world-leading research and engaging the leaders of the future, we'd love to hear from you.
