Associate Professor Elise Klein has co-authored a piece for The Conversation Australia + NZ titled ‘Care is in everything we do and everything we are’: the work of Indigenous women needs to be valued” drawing on her latest report ‘Caring about Care’. It highlights how important work goes unrecognised, uncompensated or misunderstood, leading to the marginalisation of this crucial work and the women who do it. Crawford School had the honour to host Madam Lê Thị Bích Trân, the spouse of the Vietnamese Prime Minister on the International Women’s Day. She graciously shared personal stories about her life, and the importance of women and perseverance in society within Vietnam and across the world. Madam Lê Thị Bích Trân spoke of the value of finding balance between career and family. Professor Paul Burke welcomed her to the school, with students and staff from across ANU invited to share their experience of studying and working in Australia. Many then had the rare opportunity to speak directly with Madam Lê Thị Bích Trân during morning tea. The Crawford School of Public Policy wishes to thank Madam Lê Thị Bích Trân and the Vietnamese delegation and Australian staff for celebrating International Women’s Day with us. Our special thanks must also go to the Associate Professor Long Chu for facilitating this prestigious event. --- Trường Crawford đã vinh dự được đón tiếp bà Lê Thị Bích Trân, Phu nhân Thủ tướng Việt Nam đến thăm nhân ngày Quốc tế Phụ nữ 8/3. Professor Ariadne Vromen featured on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Future Tense podcast, talking about social isolation and social cohesion. She says we need to focus on older generations and bring them into the fold, rather than blame younger generations for changes in community interaction. When it comes to the decline in physical participation, Professor Vromen says it is important to realise that increases in online communication and work-from-home in the wake of COVID can increase human connections. This includes within families by reducing the tyranny of distance, work commutes and variable work hours. You can listen to the podcast on the Future Tense program website here: https://lnkd.in/gjep-UPY You can also find the episode on your preferred podcast platform including: ABC Listen app (within Australia): https://lnkd.in/gCrafhG8 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/g_Er3_Ap Apple podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gMc6RAX5

Crawford School is a proud partner of the Australian Public Service Graduate Development Program! Our Director, Professor Janine O'Flynn, recently participated and spoke at the program’s welcome event in Canberra. This program is specifically tailored for APS Graduates, and it develops the foundational skills, behaviours, mindsets and networks graduates need to make a significant contribution in the #APS. Through cohort-based social learning and real-time interactions, the program brings graduates together from across the service to build their understanding of the broader APS and foster peer networking and cross-agency collaboration. The best part? Graduates can leverage successful completion of the program for articulation to master's programs at ANU Crawford School of Public Policy and Monash University, as well as CPA Australia. #APSAcademy #learning #publicpolicy Video credit: Gavin Blake
