TangoMundo CD launch

2 May 2014

The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) will be hosting a concert and CD launch showcasing the works of Argentine Tango composer Astor Piazzolla.

Astor Piazzolla melded the best of traditional tango with Baroque fugue structures, jazz flourishes, echoes of klezmer and references to North American popular music styles. He had the vision and determination to reinvent this most emblematic of cultural expressions and to take it on the road around the world where he inspired musicians of all nations to take up the tango.

Composed by a group known as the TangoMundo ensemble, the CD will be launched by Argentine Ambassador, His Excellency Pedro Villagra Delgado, on Friday 16 May at 7pm, at the ANU School of Music.

More information on the launch can be found at the ANCLAS website.
