Up to 112 extra childcare places have become available through the University's childcare centres with the official opening of the Goodstart Early Learning ANU centre.
The centre adds to the University's five child care centres on campus with more than 280 children attending the centres on a daily basis.
At the launch, Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt said the centre will provide more spaces for an ANU community of some 5,000 staff and 20,000 students.
"ANU has supported many generations of families and their children by giving ANU staff and students priority enrolment at ANU based childcare centres," he said. "And we will continue doing that."
Professor Schmidt said ANU plays a key role in not only developing some of the brightest minds in the country in the tertiary education sector, but it also helps connect the next generation to the University.
Goodstart's CEO Julia Davison said as a not-for-profit social enterprise, Goodstart was pleased to partner with another education institution such as ANU.
"Being a part of the campus is a powerful symbol of the important role early education plays in helping children build a solid foundation for their schooling, higher education and their lives," she said.
