This message was sent to all students at 8.30am on Thursday 26 March
Dear students
Yesterday afternoon I notified all staff that effective tomorrow, Thursday 26 March, all our campuses will shift to remote work and study.
This means that as well as students learning remotely, all professional and academic staff will work remotely. The message sent to all staff is here.
My team is working hard today to finalise a number of decisions that we hope will provide you, our students, better clarity and more flexibility going forward. You can expect to hear from us tomorrow. We appreciate that many of you are having your lives and studies severely disrupted. I want you to know the University is committed to doing all we can to ensure your safety, but also minimising the disruption to your studies.
Why are we moving the ANU community from on campus to remote work and study?
We are responding to clear advice from medical experts. To control the spread of COVID-19 we must take tough action to reduce the number of interactions on our campus, and take it now. We are going to lead by example.
What does this mean for you?
This means non-residential students must not come to campus.
If you live on campus and can go home, now is the time to go.
Residential halls and colleges will remain open for those students need to remain on campus. They'll have heightened safety protocols to maintain good hygiene and social distancing; including rostered use of shared spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms.
We are prepared for remote learning from Monday 30 March and we are confident that you will continue to have access to an excellent ANU learning experience, albeit with some complications along the way.
ANU Counselling will be available by scheduled appointment for students.
Childcare centres, the supermarket and pharmacy will also remain open in line with the current Government advice.
More information about remote learning and support and will be available over the coming days.
I want to acknowledge and thank you for your support and resilience as we work through these changes.
Brian
