ANU trials hail n’ ride service

18 September 2017

Users of the service will be able to park at the Lindsay Pryor Park for free and catch the Campus Traveller - which will also be for free - onto campus, where they'll be dropped off anywhere enroute.

The University is trialling a new bus shuttle service to allow members of the community to park at an off-site location and be brought onto campus - free of charge.

The Campus Traveller service will operate on a loop between ANU and the Lindsay Pryor Park between the hours of 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday during semester 2 2017 September 18 - November 20. The services will run from 8am, 8:30am, 9am, 9:30am, 10am, and 12pm, 1pm, 4pm, 4:30pm, 5pm, and at 5:30pm from the campus to Lindsay Pryor Park.

"Users of the service will be able to park at the Lindsay Pryor Park for free and catch the Campus Traveller - which will also be for free - onto campus, where they'll be dropped off anywhere enroute," said Director of ANU Facilities and Services, Andy Sharp.

The Campus Traveller will also follow a regular route around campus, passing major carparks which means that those who park some distance from the buildings they use or work in every day can also use the service to be dropped off closer to their destination.

Those who use the Campus Traveller can also monitor where the bus is located in real time using the ANUOK app (iTunes and Google play). This means users can also plan travel times from one side of the campus to the other during the day.

"As it is brand new, we are absolutely interested in the community's feedback on the trial of our new Campus Traveller service so we can refine and improve it for users," Andy Sharp said.

ANU intends to use feedback and data from the Semester 2 trial towards launching a full service (depends on feedback and uptake, we may have two buses operating all year round, with later or earlier starts) at the start of 2018.

More information on the Campus Traveller service can be found on the services page of the ANU website.

Those wishing to provide feedback on the service can email parking@anu.edu.au. For enquiries about the service, contact 6125 0179.

Campus Traveller benefits:

Free service for users

Permit free parking

Tracking of the service is available via the ANU OK app

Flexible pick up and drop off points on campus

The tracking of the service means students and staff can also plan travel across campus depending on classes, meetings and commitments.
