ANU team reaches grand final of debating nationals

A debating team from ANU has placed second at the Australian Intervarsity Debating Championships.

The championships were hosted by the University of Wollongong over the Easter long weekend and attracted more than 400 students. The topic of the grand finals was "That we should cease all research into artificial intelligence".

The Grand final team of Rebecca Kriesler (Arts/Law), Tandee Wang (PhB Arts) and Max Koslowski (Arts/Law), finished second to a team from Sydney University.

"This tournament is one of the biggest annual competitions in Australia and is the most prestigious," said Rebecca, who is President of ANU debating.

"Almost every university in Australia attends, and it is an incredible achievement for ANU to have done so well."

Dom Guinaine, a debater in the team that took out the minor premiership, was awarded best speaker in the tournament.
