15 April 2019

The Australian National University's (ANU) Social Research Centre has appointed Ms Diane Herz as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The Social Research Centre (SRC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of ANU Enterprise, offering world-class research and evaluation on Australian society for government, universities and not-for-profits.

Ms Herz commences as CEO today and brings to the role more than 30 years' experience in government and consulting.

ANU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Innovation) and CEO of ANU Enterprise Professor Michael Cardew-Hall said Ms Herz was the standout candidate from an "incredibly strong international field".

"The Board is very excited about the perspective and leadership Ms Herz will bring to SRC," Professor Cardew-Hall said.

"Ms Herz is a seasoned practitioner and leader in survey and policy research.

"She is the ideal person to continue the company's mission and to further its distinct position in the Australia social research landscape."

Ms Herz replaces SRC founder Darren Pennay as CEO after 19 years in the role.

Professor Cardew-Hall thanked Mr Pennay for his exceptional leadership over this time.

"During Darren's tenure, SRC grew from a one-person start-up entity operating from a spare bedroom to a trusted major supplier of social research and evaluation services with an annual turnover of $25 million," he said.

"I look forward to Darren's continued contribution to SRC as he takes up an executive leadership role focusing on research strategy, survey methodology and business development."
