ANU Recovery Plan Stage 2

Update from the Vice-Chancellor
13 October 2020

Dear colleagues,

I am writing with an update on the ANU Recovery Plan. This email includes:

ANU Recovery Plan

As part of the ANU Recovery Plan, we are releasing three additional documents:

  1. ANU Recovery Plan;
  2. College and Portfolio Recovery Plans; and
  3. ANU Service Performance Framework.

This is in addition to the Stage 1 Consultation and Response Feedback paper which we released last week.

You can read these documents on the ANU Recovery Website under 'reference documents'.

You will also be invited to a College/Portfolio meeting to discuss the impacts or potential changes to your local area. The forums' details will be published on the Recovery Plan website.

Update to ANU Executive team

Over the last few weeks, Professor Mick Cardew-Hall (Pro Vice-Chancellor Innovation) and Jane O'Dwyer (Vice-President Engagement & Global Relations) have advised, after long service to the University, that they will step down from the Executive and will finish their roles in December.

Mick has been the longest serving member of my Executive team, with a career of more than 25 years at ANU, and 11 years on the Executive. Jane O'Dwyer has been with ANU since 2004 and joined the Executive in 2017. Mick and Jane have been my colleagues for a long time and since becoming Vice-Chancellor, I have valued their wise counsel and friendship. We will hold an appropriate farewell for Mick and Jane before the end of the year to recognise and thank them for their contributions to ANU.

In response to these announcements, my Executive team will undergo a significant redesign in the coming months. In addition to the roles of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Innovation) and Vice-President (Engagement & Global Relations), we will also disestablish two vacant executive roles of Provost and Pro Vice-Chancellor (University Experience), which are both currently unfilled. I anticipate some additional changes in realigning strategic priorities and responsibilities with my Executive team and will provide an update when these decisions are finalised.

Vice-Chancellor's Forum

Later today, I will be hosting an all staff forum from 2-3pm on Zoom. Please register to attend here: https://anu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_HobdZjNuQ6qkqYjVluZZcQ.

This will be an opportunity to ask about Stage 2 of the ANU Recovery Plan. A recording will be made available on the website for those unable to attend.

Support Services

Finally, this year has been incredibly challenging, and this process will be unsettling and hard for many members of our community. I encourage everyone to continue to show the respect and empathy that they have done so well over the year as we navigate the next few months together, and seek support if you need it. We have a number of free services available for our community.

Thank you for your engagement and I will see you at today's forum.
