ANU leave policy for casual staff – COVID-19

19 March 2020

There is a lot of uncertainty during these challenging times and we are all doing our best to adapt to the evolving situation. To provide support to our casual professional and sessional academic staff, the University has implemented the following arrangements until the end of semester one, 2020:

  • If you are unable to participate in planned work due to building or campus closure, you will be entitled to special ex-gratia payment for casual hours that you were due to work during this period.

  • If you are returning from travel on University business, you will be required to self-isolate with the support of the University. If you are not presenting symptoms  and able to work during the 14 day isolation period but cannot remotely work due to practicability, you will be eligible for ex-gratia payment for the casual hours you were rostered to work during the isolation period.

  • If you are returning from personal travel and in self-isolation but are not presenting symptoms and able to work remotely, you will continue to be paid as normal. If your work cannot be performed at home or this is not practicable, you will not be entitled to an ex-gratia payment for casual shifts.

  • If you are in self-isolation following close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 and you are not presenting symptoms and able to work from home, you will continue to be paid as normal. If your work cannot be performed at home or this is not practicable, you will not be entitled to an ex-gratia payment for casual shifts.

  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while you are unable to work and in isolation, you will be entitled to ex-gratia payment for casual hours that you were due to work during this period.
Please note your diagnosis will remain strictly confidential and you should advise your supervisor and the Director of Human Resources.

  • If you have suspected case of COVID-19 and are awaiting results, while you are unable to work and in isolation, you will be entitled to ex-gratia payment for casual hours that you were due to work during this period.
