Elena Sheard is PARSA's Vice President for 2020. We caught up with her to talk movies, statistics, hockey and leek linguine!
What is your favourite movie and why?
I can't pick a favourite, but any Studio Ghibli film. I've never gotten tired of watching them.
What is a goal of yours for 2020?
A goal of mine for next year is to become a semi-competent user of R*. I started a couple of months ago and I'm still at the bottom of a very steep and infuriating learning curve.
*'R' is a programming language used for statistical analysis and data visualisation.
What is one challenge you've experienced that you've had to overcome? How did you overcome it?
I had an ACL reconstruction earlier this year, and I've hated not being able to play or umpire hockey this season. I've been walking and riding my bike as much as I can instead, but I'm definitely still in the process of overcoming it.
What is your favourite meal? Why?
I have a Ruby Tandoh recipe for leek linguine that is so good a housemate once fell off the couch in joy when I cooked it for them. It also only takes half an hour to make.
Who inspires you and why?
Among many other people, I'm inspired by Jenna Wortham and Wesley Morris (hosts of still processing - I listen to a lot of podcasts) because they are so fun to listen to and they talk about pop culture in a way I wish I did but never will.
