ANU launches first student support campaign

Every act of giving has a ripple effect on every student, on every researcher, and on every staff member.

At the 2019 ANU Alumni Awards Gala Dinner, ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt launched the University's first targeted fundraising campaign in support of scholarships: Support Australia's Students.

Support Australia's Students aims to help students with immense potential study at ANU, regardless of their background; and reward and foster talent by supporting high academic achievers, students with unique ambitions and those looking to specialise in a particular field.

Professor Schmidt said that, for Australia to live up to its own values as a great nation, it must provide a pathway to a world-leading education for anyone, from any background, who has the talent and the drive to succeed.

"We have a responsibility to transform lives. And each of us has a role to play. It is where the generosity of our community really makes a difference."

The fundraising campaign is also integral to supporting students admitted under the University's new admissions scheme which prioritises places for students from regional, remote, Indigenous or low socio-economic backgrounds.

Professor Schmidt also highlighted the key message of the Support Australia's Students campaign that, although talent is everywhere, opportunity is not.

He said the ANU community can have an incredible impact by supporting scholarships, ensuring that the University continues to produce globally influential research and a talented alumni network.

"Every act of giving has a ripple effect on every student, on every researcher, and on every staff member."
