Five questions. One former PM. The @ouranu Instagram account caught up with ANU alumnus and former Prime Minister, the Hon Dr Kevin Rudd for a quick-fire chat.

The University met with the National Tertiary Education Union and other bargaining representatives today for the first meeting in negotiations for a new ANU Enterprise Agreement.

The meeting focused on establishing the practical arrangements for bargaining, discussing the parties’ Logs of Claims and identifying the clauses to be prioritised for substantive discussion.

ANU is committed to bargaining constructively and efficiently and looks forward to progressing substantive discussions with bargaining representatives. The next meeting is scheduled for next Thursday 24 September 2026.

The 2026 ANYOU pulse staff survey launched this week, giving you a chance to have your say and contribute to our future ANU.

International Equal Pay Day on Friday 18 September is an opportunity to recognise ongoing efforts towards equal pay for work of equal value.

ANU currently has an average total remuneration gender pay gap of 8.1 per cent. The University has recently selected organisational gender equality targets to help address structural barriers, improve equity across the employee lifecycle and strengthen accountability for progress.

Twenty ANU researchers have been awarded a combined $23.4 million in the latest round of Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowships.

The four-year fellowships will support research spanning quantum technologies, climate and environmental resilience, food security, health, mathematics, and the humanities and social sciences.

Congratulations to ANU expert Dr Sima Mousavi, from the ANU Research School of Earth Sciences, who has been named the 2026 ACT Young Tall Poppy of the Year.  

Dr Mousavi’s research is helping uncover the hidden faults behind Australian earthquakes and better understand seismic risk, while making an impact beyond research by sparking students’ curiosity in Earth sciences and bringing real earthquake science into classrooms across the country. 

What can art reveal about the experience of living with endometriosis?

ANU visual art PhD candidate Dr Susanne Ilschner is combining scientific analysis with lived human experience to gain some perspective on the disease. She draws on interviews with women, as well as her experiences in the lab, clinic, and with art to evaluate pathways to an endometriosis diagnosis and what that means.

Bring your team together this October for Safe Work Month. 100 teams can receive a $100 grant to run a health and wellbeing activity with colleagues.

From a group walk or healthy morning tea to a safety hazard hunt or mindfulness session, the grant is designed to support activities that promote physical, mental and social wellbeing in the workplace. It’s a great opportunity to connect with your team, prioritise wellbeing and help create a healthier, safer workplace.

ANU has been reaccredited as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace until 31 August 2027.

The accreditation recognises the University’s ongoing commitment to supporting staff who are breastfeeding or expressing milk, through supportive policies, facilities and workplace practices.

Applications for the ANU Educational Fellowship Scheme (EFS) open in October for ANU staff, HDR students and tutors who contribute to teaching and learning. Start exploring opportunities and join an upcoming workshop:

ANU researchers are seeking participants for a study exploring how people can be identified from photographs taken at different angles. Participants will wear a sensor headband while researchers record images and video of their face in different positions.

The study takes about one hour at Skaidrite Darius Building 108. Participants must be aged 18 or older and attend without makeup. You’ll receive $40 as thanks for taking part.
